Evil Uno On His Dream Forbidden Door Opponent
AEW’s myriad relationships with other wrestling promotions have opened the door to many potential dream matches for wrestlers and fans alike.
For example, Eddie Kingston recently realised a lifelong goal of wrestling puroresu legend Jun Akiyama at Full Gear: Zero Hour.
Now, speaking exclusively with TJR Wrestling, longtime AEW star Evil Uno has revealed his dream opponents from outside of the company:
“I would be foolish not to have at least some dream opponents, for sure. I have put this out there, but I would love to face off with Toru Yano from New Japan. I just think as far as two individuals, we are two peas in a pod, I feel like we would Jive in a way that me and other people would not.”
Uno may get his wish next year as at the post-show press conference for Ring of Honor’s Final Battle event, Tony Khan noted that he was “almost certain'” that a Forbidden Door 2 would happen in 2023.
In addition to the New Japan star, Evil Uno went on to discuss his desire to work elsewhere in Japan, and in particular, DDT-Pro Wrestling:
“But nowadays the ‘forbidden door’ just expands beyond New Japan, it’s hit impact. it’s hit NOAH, DDT. So, there are a lot of places I would like to see myself expand upon and there are a lot of people I would love to get to tangle with. DDT especially, I feel like DDT and Dark Order is a melding of worlds that makes a ton of sense and hopefully we’ll get to see more of that now with Takeshita signing officially with AEW, I’m sure that will open the door to more DDT people.”
“And just recently Angelico had wrestled a DDT pro wrestler as well, and plus Jun, Akiyama just came to wrestle Eddie Kingston, which is not a phrase I would have ever thought I could say, but that’s crazy! So, I think that we’re in a world where anything could happen, but yeah, number one on that list is still Toru Yano.”
With AEW’s relationships with both New Japan and DDT-Pro continuing to blossom, fans can expect more dream matches to become a reality in 2023.
