Eric Bischoff Believes WWE Hall Of Famer Would Have Become A “Nobody” If They Joined WCW
WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff speculated on whether Kurt Angle would have reached the same heights in wrestling if he had joined WCW in the late 90s.
During the intense Monday Night Wars, WWE and WCW were fiercely competing for dominance, each striving to sign top-tier talent. While Bischoff managed to secure numerous high-profile signings, including the nWo, WWE made a significant move by bringing in 1996 Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle.
On his “83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff delved into an alternate scenario where Angle opted for WCW instead of WWE. He expressed his belief that this choice would have significantly altered Angle’s career, stating:
In 1999 or 2000, I think Kurt Angle would have come and gone and nobody would be talking about him to this day. People would have forgotten about him. That’s not a good time to emerge as a star in WCW. It was possibly one of the worst times to emerge as a star because nobody would notice or care at that point.
Bischoff described the challenging conditions within WCW during that era. By the end of 1999 and into 2000, the company was plagued by internal turmoil and struggling to stay relevant. This chaotic environment, according to Bischoff, would not have been conducive to fostering a rising star like Angle.
Which WWE Hall Of Famer Did Eric Bischoff Say WCW Signed For Free?
Eric Bischoff claimed that WCW signed WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage for “basically free.” Bischoff spoke about how WCW signed Savage to a $750,000-per-year contract but Savage’s Slim Jim promotional deal secured WCW $750,000-per-year which effectively paid for Savage’s contract making him essentially a free talent.
