ECW Legend Praises AEW’s Orange Cassidy: “He’s Become A Star”
The growth of Orange Cassidy has been incredible to see in AEW with one ECW Legend calling the International Champion a big star in the company.
Orange Cassidy is a two-time and current AEW International Champion. When Cassidy first won the championship over a year ago in October 2022, it was called the All-Atlantic Title. AEW decided to rename the title while Cassidy held it.
During his first reign as the International Champion, Orange Cassidy held the title for an incredible 326 days with over 30 successful title defenses. Unfortunately for the jean-jacket-wearing Cassidy, he lost the International Title to three-time AEW World Champion Jon Moxley at AEW All Out in September. However, the fact that it was the main event of All Out is a testament to how well Orange did as champion to elevate it to the status of a main event championship.
On the October 10th episode of AEW Dynamite, Orange subbed in for an injured (due to concussion) Jon Moxley to face off against the International Champion Rey Fenix. Orange went on to regain the championship that meant so much to him.
Tommy Dreamer, an ECW legend, former WWE Superstar and current star with IMPACT Wrestling, spoke about Orange Cassidy’s rise in AEW on a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, where Dreamer is a co-host on the show. Dreamer was talking about the Dynamite main event that saw Orange team up with Kazuchika Okada against Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli. Dreamer made the point that Cassidy’s name is up there with the other former World Champions in the match.
“For anyone who ever knocked Orange Cassidy, his name is up there as well. The guy consistently goes out there and puts on one hell of a show, as well as keeps his [gimmick]. A gimmick is short-lived, but a wrestler who can work, their gimmick will last forever, and so will they.”
“I’ve been so entertained by him, especially when he went to the top rope and dropped that lazy, falling-asleep elbow. Again, if you get AEW, you get the product, but Orange Cassidy’s work has been insane since he joined. He’s truly become a star for the company, and his name deserves to be up there with everybody he was in the ring with.”
Orange Cassidy set for huge International Title defense on AEW Dynamite
In that AEW Dynamite main event match from this past Wednesday, the team of Castagnoli & Danielson picked up the win when Castagnoli caught Cassidy with an uppercut forearm shot to the chest and managed to pin the International Champion.
Even though Castagnoli got the win for his team, the Swiss powerhouse is in a surly mood because his good friend Danielson suffered a broken orbital bone during the match, which will require surgery and put Danielson on the shelf for the rest of this year and perhaps into next year as well.
This coming Wednesday, November 1st on AEW Dynamite in Louisville, Orange Cassidy will put his AEW International Title on the line against Castagnoli due to Claudio pinning Orange in the tag team match.
Will Cassidy have another lengthy reign as the AEW International Champion or will Claudio Castagnoli avenge his injured friend by picking up a big victory? Find out this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.
