Drew McIntyre Names WWE Match He Really Wants

There is a particular match that Drew McIntyre really wants to have in WWE.

At WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre will get the chance to win a World Heavyweight Championship when he faces Seth “Freakin” Rollins. It will be McIntyre’s third shot at Seth’s title since November. The Scottish Warrior is hoping that the third time is the charm.

When the 2024 calendar year began, McIntyre went away from being a fan favorite like he had been for the previous four years and instead, he became more vicious while taking advantage of the opportunities presented to him.

Going into the WWE Royal Rumble in January, Drew McIntyre made it clear that he was coming for CM Punk in the match. While Punk finished as the runner-up in that match to eventual winner Cody Rhodes, Punk suffered a devastating injury in the match as well.

There was a spot in the Men’s Royal Rumble where McIntyre hit the Future Shock DDT on Punk. That spot led to Punk suffering a torn right triceps from when he landed taking the move. It was a freak injury and not something that was caused by McIntyre. On television, McIntyre gloated about Punk’s injury while claiming that he prayed for it to happen, which made the fans hate McIntyre even more.

Drew McIntyre Wants To Wrestle CM Punk

While fans may think of Drew McIntyre as a heel on television, the man himself believes he’s just speaking the truth. McIntyre wasn’t a main event level performer during Punk’s first run in WWE from 2006 to 2014, but he is at the top of the company now.

During a recent interview with Gorilla Position, McIntyre trashed Punk for being injury-prone while also adding that he still really wants to face Punk in a match.

“Yeah, I just hope he’s careful. Just worried he’s going to injure something else during rehab. Man’s made of glass. I want that match. I really want that match.“

“I’m just concerned for him, especially wrestling someone like me. I’m a freaking monster in there…I got my hands on him. You saw what I did to him at ‘Rumble. I tore him to pieces. I chopped him to bits…[CM] Punk was black and blue. I ended up hurting him in there.”

As for his WWE future, there have been reports for nearly a year about McIntyre’s WWE deal expiring at some point at WrestleMania 40. While some people believe the push he’s receiving is likely helped by a new deal, reports from February claim that no deal between WWE and McIntyre has been agreed to yet.
