Why Drew McIntyre Stormed Out Of The Royal Rumble

Drew McIntyre has confirmed why he stormed out of the 2025 Royal Rumble.

After entering the match at number 17, McIntyre hung around for just over 26 minutes before being eliminated by Damian Priest. However, by the time he got backstage, an irate Drew McIntyre was shouting and swearing before leaving the arena.

According to reports in the immediate aftermath, he was upset at someone in the match “having to get their moves in.” The same report noted that McIntyre wasn’t alone in feeling that was the case.

The person involved was believed to be LA Knight and McIntyre felt he got in the way during his planned elimination, meaning the spot had to be redone.

Drew McIntyre Admits He Was Fuming

During an appearance on the Getting Over podcast, McIntyre discussed his acclaimed rivalry with CM Punk and the incident at the Rumble. The Scottish star noted that while all of the details weren’t totally accurate, he did storm out.

McIntyre explained that he felt it was better to leave the venue than end up doing something he’d later regret.

I mean, not all the details are accurate but yeah, I was fuming (at WWE Royal Rumble) and I let everybody know what I thought and then I left.

Because I’ve learned as an adult, nothing good happens when you’re highly emotional so just calm down, get the facts, then deal with it, because I don’t want to punch somebody in the head and be unprofessional and then find out facts later I didn’t know about. It was the grown-up thing to do.

For me, it’s just if I ever feel somebody did something disrespectful, went into business for themselves and the likes. That’s when I get frustrated and sometimes it’s not what it appears on the surface and you have to get all the facts together and you have to just calm down. It’s just fun that every time I have a moment — it doesn’t happen often (he laughed).

(Damian) Priest finally jokes about it on the promo because that’s all he’s got aside, ‘Drew complains all the time. He’s always gonna leave the building’ and I was like, ‘Come on, mate, it’s a couple times in a few years.’ Consider I’m Scottish, I got an anger problem, that’s not too bad.

Also, if I stayed, I might have punched some people out and been like, oh, actually, it wasn’t their fault. Wakey, wakey.

The incident at the Rumble kicked off McIntyre’s run to WrestleMania which will see him clash with Damian Priest. However, Drew McIntyre has admitted he’s facing a race against time to be fit for the event after getting glass in his eye after taking a Chokeslam on a car windshield.
