Dominik Mysterio Recalls Being Part Of 2005 Rey-Eddie Storyline

Dominik Mysterio has come a long way from being a tool for Eddie Guerrero to use against Rey Mysterio.

Dominik Mysterio’s wrestling career as an adult saw him start with a challenging role to fill. As the son of Rey Mysterio, Dominik usually found himself stuck in his father’s shadow, unable to carve an identity for himself. That has since changed following his allegiance with Rhea Ripley and the Judgment Day faction.

However, Dominik’s “mommy issues” with Ripley aren’t the only family issues he has dealt with in WWE.

Back in 2005, Dominik Mysterio was added to the deeply personal feud between his rather Rey and his alleged “Papi” Eddie Guerrero. Eddie wanted to use Dominik as a pawn to manipulate Rey and gain enough of a psychological edge over the masked superstar.

That feud culminated in the “custody of Dominik ladder match” at SummerSlam 2005, which Mysterio won. And according to Dominik himself, his reactions to what was going on during that time were genuine.

Speaking on an edition of Cheap Heat, Dominik Mysterio explained that he got no advanced notice of what Eddie would do, which led to some very real reactions.

“I don’t remember Eddie prepping me for how intense he was going to be, that kind of just came in organically. As a kid, I thought that he was genuinely going to hit me and like, something was going to happen … These were all genuine reactions.”

Additionally, when Eddie lost his temper during the ladder match (because of Vickie’s missed cue) he kept simmering all through Rey’s celebration and continued his tirade backstage.

“We go to the back and I see, I see Eddie just losing it. Flipping [crates] and just like, slamming them. I remember my mom and dad were, it was like a group hug, almost, to where they were kind of, like, didn’t want me to see that side of him … I just remember him coming over, still sweaty and just liked cool down and said just like, ‘I’m sorry.’”

That said, Dominik Mysterio still took this opportunity to dish out some negativity on his real father Rey by blaming him for how he looked at the time.

“The bight blonde hair was [Rey’s] idea. It was probably one of the worst things that I’ve done.”
