Dave Meltzer Match Ratings WWE WrestleMania 40 Night One

The Rock entrance WWE WrestleMania 40

Dave Meltzer’s match ratings for night one of WrestleMania 40 have been revealed.

While WrestleMania 40 XL was packed with highly-anticipated matches across two nights, the biggest story heading into night one was the in-ring return of The Rock.

After a singles match against Roman Reigns was rejected by fans, The Great One teamed with the Tribal Chief to take on Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. In the end, it was The Rock who pinned the American Nightmare to score the win, ensuring Rhodes’ match with Reigns the next night would be contested under Bloodline Rules.

The event opened with Becky Lynch challenging Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Title. Come showtime Lynch was battling a fever and strep throat as well as The Eradicator, all of which proved too much to handle as Ripley walked out with the gold.

Meanwhile, Sami Zayn scored an emotional win over Gunther to claim the Intercontinental Title. The victory ended the Austrian’s record-breaking reign and provided a real feel-good moment as Zayn won the title for the fourth time.
