Current Champion Blames WWE For Failure, Refused To Renew Contract
A current IWGP Champion has blamed WWE for their failed run.
Sareee, or Sarray, as she was known in the Stamford-based company, was a regular on NXT.
Her character had a unique characteristic that allowed her to ‘supernaturally’ transition due to a medallion given to her by her grandmother.
While appearing backstage, the Japanese star would wear a school uniform, but as soon as she came in front of the audience, she’d be in her wrestling attire.
Sarray was also famously involved in a feud with current WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton from March to May 2022.
The IWGP Women’s Champion recently spoke about her WWE run on Jaguar Yokota on YouTube.
Sareee explained that she wanted her character to be strong and cool, but the company portrayed her as an anime character.
She also stated there were discussions about renewing her contract, but she refused to sign.
When I went to WWE in America, I didn’t want to be a villain so much as a strong wrestler. I wanted to be seen as cool and strong, but instead they made me play an anime character in a sailor uniform. They told me it suited me, but I felt like, ‘That’s not me!
[English subtitles] Sareee talks about playing a heel and having to play a character she didn’t want to in WWE:

Dissension Between Iyo Sky And Kabuki Warriors On WWE RAW
On the August 11 episode of RAW, Iyo Sky faced Roxanne Perez in a singles match.
Earlier, she was seen in a backstage segment with the Kabuki Warriors, who offered to join her as backup, but she refused.
During the match, Roxanne’s tag team partner, Raquel Rodriguez, made her presence felt by the ring side, causing a distraction for Sky.
This led to Kairi Sane and Asuka interfering and costing Sky the match.
Backstage, the three Japanese stars were shown in an argument, with Asuka rudely shoving Sky before leaving.
