AEW Star Admits Being “Awkward” With Promos
Kris Statlander is constantly looking to improve.
The current TBS Champion returned from injury in May 2023 by making a surprise appearance at Double or Nothing. Statlander answered Jade Cargill’s open challenge, capturing the title and ending the undefeated streak of the inaugural champion. Statlander has a number of successful title defences to her name and is going from strength to strength in her matches. However, the champ has stated that she is trying to improve her promo abilities.
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Statlander has outlined her process for improving her mic skills, being a big believer in practice makes perfect:
“I still feel very awkward on the microphone and speaking all the time. I just force myself to do it a lot more often so I have to get better at it. I know I’m not the best at it and I know I’m not any special talker and I don’t have the best vernacular, and my tone isn’t always great and I come off very awkward. I’m aware of all that, but I know the more that I do it, the better I’ll be at it,”
Statlander continued by revealing that when it comes to promos she can struggle in turning the intensity up to 11:
“You’d be surprised how socially awkward I can be. I know a lot of wrestlers and people in wrestling, and I’m more comfortable around them. It is what it is at this point. I just don’t care. I know I’m awkward, I acknowledge it, I own up to it, and it’s something I can’t control. One of the things with wrestling promos is you have to be yelling and passionate. I’m passionate, I just don’t feel like yelling right now.”
