Cody Rhodes WrestleMania Mess Now An Angle In WWE

Cody Rhodes WrestleMania 40 Sign

Cody Rhodes was going to finish his story at WrestleMania 40 and then he wasn’t but maybe the situation is all part of the plan in WWE.

Cody Rhodes first attempted to finish his story and win the WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Hearts were broken, however, as Reigns retained his gold with more than a little help from The Bloodline.

The American Nightmare earned himself another chance to challenge for gold when Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble for the second time in a row. Immediately after that win, Rhodes pointed to a watching Roman Reigns and made very clear he wanted to challenge him again for the title he missed out on the first time around.

However, CM Punk suffered an injury in the Royal Rumble putting his expected WrestleMania clash with Seth Rollins on hold. Rollins tried to convince Rhodes that the World Heavyweight Championship should be the belt he’s challenging for and it seemed on SmackDown, Rhodes agreed.

Cody Rhodes came face-to-face with Roman Reigns and acquiesced his challenge against The Tribal Chief to The Rock. The Rock received his usual ovation in the arena but as it dawned on WWE fans watching at home just what was unfolding, carnage ensued.

Is WWE Turning Cody Rhodes’ Situation Into An Angle?

#WeWantCody trended on social media in the United States as fan support swelled behind Rhodes who looked, frankly, heartbroken after being embraced by The Rock. The Rock is the one said to have pushed with a match for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania now that he is on the Board of Directors at TKO. It could also very well be that the company wants The Rock’s presence to overshadow the horrifying lawsuit launched against Vince McMahon.

However, as fan support shows no sign of slowing down and the very real possibility of a WrestleMania main event being turned on, Dave Meltzer thinks there is now an element of storyline regarding what’s going on with Cody Rhodes.

Writing in his Daily Update, Meltzer noted the situation with Rhodes is now an angle as Logan Paul and Ricochet have both expressed their support for the star on social media. Meltzer suggests the idea is now to replicate the support Daniel Bryan received in the run-up to WrestleMania 30.

Back then Bryan appeared to be written out of any title match at WrestleMania in 2014, however, fan backing reached a fever pitch for the star and he ended up winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the show’s main event.

Nothing has officially been announced for The Rock, Reigns, or Rhodes as of yet but a WrestleMania press conference has been scheduled when matches could well be made official.
