Cody Rhodes Chooses WWE WrestleMania 40 Opponent, Triple H Confirms Decision

Cody Rhodes made his choice for WrestleMania 40 at a press event that also featured Roman Reigns, The Rock and Seth Rollins.

At the WrestleMania 40 Press Conference at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, several big name WWE superstars spoke at the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event. Going into the event, the fans wanted to get some answers about who might be facing off against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 40.

When it came time for the top male superstars in WWE to make their appearances, the World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins talked about how he wanted to know what was going to happen at WrestleMania. Rollins called for Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes to appear on the stage, but instead, it was the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief, mocked Cody for not being sure about what he wanted at WrestleMania. That led to Reigns thinking that he would decide who faces him at WrestleMania and that led to Reigns picking his cousin, The Rock. The fans booed that statement.

The Rock was up next and he was booed by a lot of fans who chanted “We Want Cody” for Rhodes. The Rock showed a graphic showing his family tree and how his grandfather and Roman’s grandfather were at the top of the family tree. Rock said that they had a blood bond. Rock said that he would face Reigns and they locked their hands together to agree to it.

Cody Rhodes: “Hold on!” Cody said that this right here is bulls**t! Cody said that it is not Roman’s distinction to determine the main event at WrestleMania because it is Cody’s right since Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble.

That’s when Cody Rhodes made it clear: “At WrestleMania 40 in the main event, I choose you Roman Reigns!” Reigns said that Cody Rhodes was embarrassing himself now. Roman told Cody to go over to the number two table with Seth Rollins. Reigns mocked Reigns and told Cody he’s irrelevant just like his dad.

Cody said that Roman is all about family, then how is Jey? Cody trashed Roman and Rock talking about how they are going to fight about being at the Head of the Table.

Things took a personal turn from there when Cody said that if Roman’s grandfather was here and Rock’s grandfather was here, they would be ashamed of Reigns and Rock.

That did not sit well with The Rock, who slapped Cody in the face. A potential fight on the stage was broken up by Triple H, Raw GM Adam Pearce & Smackdown GM Nick Aldis. Cody made his way to the back while Rollins yelled at Rock and they swore at eachother a bit too.

Triple H Makes Cody Rhodes-Roman Reigns Official For WrestleMania

After the WrestleMania 40 press conference, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque made it official by posting the Reigns-Rhodes graphic for WrestleMania 40.

What that means for The Rock, Seth Rollins and others isn’t known right now, but it appears that a Roman Reigns-Cody Rhodes WrestleMania rematch his set for WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia on April 6th or April 7th.
