Cody Rhodes Reacts To Roman Reigns Saying Cody Runs Away
Cody Rhodes has given some thoughts on the interesting comments that Roman Reigns made on Raw about Cody “running away” when things don’t go his way.
This past Monday on the March 20th edition of Raw, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes had a promo face-off as they continued to build anticipation for their WrestleMania 39 match on Sunday, April 2nd in Los Angeles when Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Rhodes.
During their exchange, Reigns told Rhodes that he is not the problem, but what he represents in the problem. Reigns ripped on Rhodes for running away from WWE when he was Stardust. Rhodes also mentioned Cody running away from the promotion he started (that would be AEW) and when Cody came back to WWE last year, he tore his pec. Reigns told Cody that he wasn’t going to finish the story by becoming the WWE Champion.
Reigns told Cody Rhodes to make a choice that his dad would be proud of. Otherwise, Reigns told Cody to do what he always does and “run like a little bitch.” The crowd did an “ohhh” reaction as Reigns took that shot.
In an interview with WrestleJoy, Cody Rhodes admitted that he loves that Reigns brought up that Cody “runs away” from things in wrestling.
“I love that Roman brought it up in terms of running. I have to own it. I did meet adversity and I did not say, you know what, I’m gonna put my feet in the sand and stay. I didn’t put my flag here. I’m not gonna get back to the campus. I’m gonna find a different campus. I hate the expression ‘trust the process’ with all my life. Why not create the process? Why do I have to trust the process?”
“I’d rather create the process. Roman isn’t wrong that the business stung me, and I had to move away from where I got stung. I couldn’t just continue to get stung.”
“Cody also explained why he felt that those comments were ironic coming from Roman Reigns when he added, “With all of that said, it’s ironic coming from Roman, who is a lifelong investment by WWE. That investment is absolutely paying off. But it just started paying off.”
Cody Rhodes would go on to praise Roman Reigns while calling him a “special” performer in WWE.
“I’ve talked about him with the greatest of reverence and respect, because I know how absolutely dang special he is in our world.”
“But if you’re gonna get low brow with his comments like that, just remember that if me meeting adversity and changing my ways, going out and betting on myself, is that less valuable than meeting adversity and just pretending it doesn’t exist?”
“Either way, it really shouldn’t matter because you’re absolutely, as champion proving to everyone that you are everything you say you are as champion. I feel I’m everything I say I am as the American Nightmare. So it is up to the fans to decide the verdict on these trials, on my story, and the journey. I’ve had things I’ve done that weren’t great, but I do all of them as well as the things I’ve done that were absolutely special and helped create magic.”
While Reigns did take the shot at Cody for running away in the promo, Cody Rhodes ended up getting in shots of his own by suggesting that when he beats Reigns at WrestleMania, members of The Bloodline are going to walk away from Reigns.
Speaking of The Bloodline, Cody Rhodes will face Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline this coming Monday on Raw. Meanwhile, Cody and Roman will have one more confrontation before WrestleMania 39 when they meet face-to-face next Friday on the March 31st episode of Smackdown.
