Cody Rhodes Recalls Legendary Wrestlers Babysitting Him As A Kid

Cody Rhodes has always been a part of the business and is a second-generation wrestler. In fact, he was raised in the business.

During Cody Rhodes’ appearance on Pardon My Take, he spoke about his time in the business as a child. Since Dusty Rhodes used to run the shows, The American Nightmare would often end up with other superstars as his babysitters. One of them was Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Cody Rhodes spoke fondly about The Texas Rattlesnake taking care of him and detailed how his unique set of babysitters would keep an eye on him.

Stunning’ Steve Austin from WCW was, on occasion, my babysitter. On occasion. At Center Stage in Atlanta, and he was the nicest guy about it ever because he didn’t really do a lot of babysitting, as much as he’d sit me in the locker room and be like, ‘Hey, you want a soda?’ ‘Yeah, sure, Steve.’ ‘Alright. Stay here though. Don’t go anywhere. My match is next and then I’ll be back.’ It was really basic, just keep an eye, because my dad was running the show at the time. So when he was showing up at WWE and became the man, and had this (WWE Championship), I thought, that’s Steve. That’s my guy. I was with Steve early on.

At Center Stage in Atlanta for WCW, at The Omni, at all the local — UTC Chattanooga, all these local WCW shows — he’d always get me somebody to watch me, but Steve I felt like was one of the only ones that really took it serious. I remember Sherri Martel one time was watching me. She was not watching me. Ricky Steamboat stitched my eye up one time because I fell down the steps and busted my eye. He didn’t want my dad to know about it. But how is he not gonna know about it when I have stitches and a black eye? Yeah, I had a fun group. Harley Race, where he was just whittling a stick with a pocket knife and the scariest man I’ve ever seen in my life. So they were unique babysitters. [h/t: Fightful]
