Cody Rhodes The Jewel In WWE’s Crown After Historic Win
Gunther wanted to put his opponent to sleep at Crown Jewel but suffered his own nightmare as Cody Rhodes won big in Saudi Arabia.
Triple H surprised everyone at Bad Blood when he announced a brand new championship only for Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. A champion of champions title – complete with a wildly extravagant belt – would be fought over by both the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions as well as the WWE Women’s and Women’s World Champions.
That set up a mouth-watering clash that few thought they’d see for quite some time as Cody Rhodes faced Gunther for the newly minted title.
In the weeks leading up to their bout, both men exchanged words and things got physical when Rhodes grew tired of The Ring General’s taunts and struck the first blow. Ludwig Kaiser attempted to save his Imperium partner when Randy Orton evened the odds.
But at Crown Jewel, it turned out both Rhodes and Gunther had to go it alone for the ultimate prize.
Cody Rhodes Escapes Saudi Arabia As Crown Jewel Champion
Gunther used his size and strength to dominate his opponent for much of the match but his obsession with putting Rhodes to sleep proved to be his undoing.
Cody Rhdoes survived the sleeper hold while Gunther escaped a Cross Rhodes for just a two count when Rhodes attempted a super Cody Cutter, he was caught in another sleeper hold but rolled through just as Bret Hart did to Roddy Piper once upon a time to pin The Ring General and become the first-ever men’s Crown Jewel Champion.
Earlier in the night Liv Morgan became the inaugural women’s Crown Jewel Champion as Tiffany Stratton caused chaos allowing the Women’s World Champion to defeat Nia Jax.
