Cody Rhodes Wants Ironman Match With Former WWE Rival
Cody Rhodes has an opponent in mind if he ever gets a chance to do an Ironman Match in WWE.
When Cody Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 after six years away from the company, the man he faced at WrestleMania 38 was a top star named Seth “Freakin” Rollins.
The two men would go on to have a rivalry that would see them have three outstanding matches at PLE shows in 2022. The rivalry ended with an incredible Hell in a Cell Match in June 2022 while Cody wrestled with a torn pectoral muscle that was badly bruised and visibly purple when the match took place.
A lot has changed in the two years since that rivalry since Cody and Seth have found themselves as two of the biggest babyface stars in WWE. Rollins had a 10-month reign with the World Heavyweight Title while Cody has been WWE Champion for the past five months. They were also teammates at when they lost to The Bloodline’s Roman Reigns & The Rock in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Saturday.
During an interview with Inside The Ropes, Cody praised his former rival Rollins as perhaps the MVP of WrestleMania 40 since he had two big matches during WM40 weekend and also helped Cody win the WWE Title against Roman Reigns on WrestleMania Sunday as well.
“Look at WrestleMania 40, in a sense of, you know, Seth the MVP of that event. And I think sometimes when you’re the base of something or when you are maybe its biggest cheerleader and the guy who’s blown the horn and waving the flag like Seth had been for WWE — probably as in terms of outspokenness more than anybody — I think those matches …. I don’t think I realized how important they were at the time.”
Cody Rhodes Suggests An Ironman Match With Seth Rollins
There have not been that many 60-minute Ironman Matches in WWE history, but if Cody can be in one of them, he thinks Seth Rollins would be a great choice as an opponent.
“I’d love to do…he is such a great in-ring wrestler, in addition to all the other things he is — if I had to go 60 minutes with anybody, I’d certainly like to test myself with somebody like him in an Iron Man setting. But, again, I don’t know if anybody wants to see another one. We really did good with the three we had.”
Recently, Cody Rhodes also opened up about what he has thought about his first reign as WWE Champion and the responsibilities that come with the role he has for the company.
