Cody Rhodes’ Enemy Targeting His WWE Spot
Cody Rhodes has made a new rival, who is eyeing his spot in WWE.
The American Nightmare reclaimed the Undisputed WWE Championship from John Cena in a brutal Street Fight at WWE SummerSlam 2025 on August 3. This victory marked Cody’s triumphant return to the top of WWE.
Following this, on the August 8 episode of WWE SmackDown, Rhodes teamed up with John Cena to face Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul in a tag team match. The bout saw Rhodes and Cena working in sync, but the match ended in a disqualification when Logan Paul hit Cena with a low blow.
The aftermath turned brutal as Drew McIntyre attacked Cody Rhodes viciously, using the WWE Championship belt to strike him and delivering a devastating Claymore Kick through the announce table. McIntyre then held up the championship belt, signaling his clear ambition and greed for the title.
In the days after the attack, McIntyre posted a workout video on Instagram with a caption that made his intentions clear. The statement reflected his mindset that McIntyre sees himself as the future face of WWE and ready to take over from Cody Rhodes.
He wrote, “Building the back that will carry this company (again).”

Cody Rhodes’ New Rival Drew McIntyre Reacts to Brock Lesnar’s Return
In an interview with The West Sport, Drew McIntyre shared his reaction to the recent surprise return of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. He said he was at home in Nashville when he saw Lesnar return and thought simply, “There he is.”
McIntyre acknowledged Lesnar as “the Beast” who causes headlines, but also noted that Lesnar is the very opponent he defeated for his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania. McIntyre’s comments suggest respect and recognition of Lesnar’s impact but also reaffirm his own position in the company’s hierarchy.
“I just thought, ‘There’s Brock. There he is.’ I didn’t think anything crazy. I just saw him come out. I had finished my last appearance, I got in a plane. I believe I just arrived home in Nashville, where I saw it, and I went, ‘Oh, there he is.’ Brock is back. He’s the beast, he causes a lot of headlines, and most importantly, he’s also the guy I beat in the main event of WrestleMania for my first WWE Championship in five minutes.” [H/T Fightful]
