Cody Rhodes Offered Historic Dream Match Before AEW Exit

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has revealed he was offered a dream match before he left AEW to return to WWE in 2022.

Cody Rhodes stunned the wrestling world in early 2022 when he returned to WWE after six years away. During his absence from the company, Cody Rhodes helped change the wrestling world forever as one of the key founders of AEW alongside Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.

During his time in AEW, Cody Rhodes was involved in a lot of big moments but perhaps none was more historic than when Sting made his debut in the company to save Rhodes and Darby Allin from an attack at the hands of Team Taz.

Sting has announced when his last match in AEW will take place, confirming that Showtime will be for the last time at Revolution in 2024.

Cody Rhodes Turned Down Chance To Wrestle Sting

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes was asked for his thoughts on Sting’s impending retirement and revealed that a match with The Icon was the last one he was offered during his time in AEW:

“The last match I was offered in AEW was that match. It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory. I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career.”

It is currently unknown who Sting will face in his last match but he was recently joined in AEW by his old rival Ric Flair who vowed to walk the last part of The Stinger’s journey with him.
