Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest stars in WWE and Jim Cornette had some good things to say about it compared to how Cody was used in AEW.

It was at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022 when Cody Rhodes officially returned to WWE after spending about six years out of the company. The first ten years of Cody’s career, which was when he was in 20s, were spent in WWE.

In January 2019, Cody Rhodes was one of the Executive Vice Presidents and founders of All Elite Wrestling, which is owned by Tony Khan.

Part of the reason why AEW was able to form when it did is because guys like Cody Rhodes and the other EVPs Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega were all free agents at the time. There were also wrestling legends like Chris Jericho and Jim Ross too. The addition of a former WWE Champion like Jon Moxley in May 2019 was huge as well.

During his AEW run, Cody Rhodes was the inaugural and three-time TNT Champion, but he was never the AEW World Champion. Part of the reason for that is because he lost a match early in AEW that prevented him from challenging for the AEW World Title.

As for his WWE run since 2022, Cody obviously missed seven months after a torn pectoral muscle injury. However, since then he won the Royal Rumble match, and headlined WrestleMania 37 against where he came up short of winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Title due to interference from Solo Sikoa. For the past three months, he’s been feuding with the legendary Brock Lesnar which has become a huge rivalry.

While speaking on a recent Jim Cornette Experience podcast, wrestling legend Jim Cornette praised WWE for how they use Cody compared to The American Nightmare’s run in AEW.

“He’s the biggest babyface in the wrestling business now. That just goes to show you how quick things can turn around. He was a babyface in AEW and the fans were booing him, and now he’s the biggest babyface in the biggest company in the world.”

“It’s the same guy but it’s the presentation. It’s the same product, but you’re getting a negative reaction because of the way you’re marketing it in one place and it’s selling like gangbusters in the other place.”
