CM Punk Takes Weird Shot At AEW Star Over Gunther

CM Punk WWE Raw

CM Punk’s social media posts continue to get people talking.

After taking a short break from the red brand due to the birth of his son, Gunther returned to Raw on January 15th and announced his entry into the Royal Rumble match.

The star enjoyed an incredible run in the 2023 edition of the match, entering at number one and lasting until the final two, losing out to a returning Cody Rhodes. In the process, the Intercontinental Champion set a new record for time spent in the 30-man version of the match, clocking over one hour and 11 minutes.

In response to the news, CM Punk took to social media, writing “Man… if what I’m hearing is real…. Poor 28 other guys.”

The comment is seemingly in reference to a Tweet from AEW star Keith Lee back in January 2022 which was in response to the Austrian star having his name changed from Walter to Gunther. At the time Lee wrote “Man….if what I’m hearing is real…. Poor Walter.”

Some In WWE Unsure On CM Punk

While Punk was given a huge welcome from fans when he returned to WWE at Survivor Series, not everyone has been delighted to have him back in the fold. While Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre have made their feelings clear on television, blurring the lines between fiction and reality, Jinder Mahal has admitted he has “mixed emotions” about CM Punk coming back.

In a recent interview, Mahal said he was excited to see Punk back in a WWE ring, but admitted he understood Rollins’ criticism.
