CM Punk & The Undertaker Face Massive Accusation From Ex-WWE Star

CM Punk vs The Undertaker - WrestleMania 29

CM Punk and The Undertaker going long in a famous match of theirs affected other wrestlers in WWE, including a former star who is still bitter about it.

When a wrestling show takes place, the main booker and the agents who put it together time everything to ensure there is time for everything.

In today’s era of pro wrestling with streaming services, there may be more leniency with time cues, but on WWE Unreal, which aired on Netflix, the company still cares about hitting them.

At WrestleMania 29 in 2013, many WWE fans would likely say that CM Punk and The Undertaker had the best match on the show as the Deadmen got the win to go 21-0 at WrestleMania. It was also one of three matches on the card that went over 20 minutes long.

Brodus Clay was supposed to be in a WrestleMania 29 match with Tensai as part of their Tons of Funk team, along with The Funkadactyls (Naomi & Cameron) against The Rhodes Scholars duo of Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow and The Bella Twins – Nikki & Brie Bella. However, the match was cut due to time.

CM Punk And The Undertaker Going Long Cost Brodus Clay His WrestleMania Moment

While speaking to TMZ’s Inside The Ring, former WWE superstar Brodus Clay, who goes by the name of Tyrus now, claimed that the reason Tons of Funk’s WrestleMania 29 match got cut is because of CM Punk and The Undertaker being too long.

“When Taker and Punk went 15 minutes over at Mania, my match got cut. And that was my big match, where I was up and it was supposed to be my coming out party. And it got cut. And I never really—mentally—I was frustrated for a long time after that. And I felt really… it was a big point in my life.”

The claim that Taker and Punk went “15 minutes over” is suspicious, since the match was 22 minutes. If you count entrances, then it’s about 30 minutes most likely, but it seems like a stretch to say it went 15 minutes over.

According to Tyrus, WWE changing his WrestleMania match affected him negatively.

“It dramatically changed my relationship with the WWE after that. I felt slided, wronged—however you want to call it. But ultimately, it led to the path that we’re sitting here now. So I look at it… had it happened, who knows?” (H/T RingsideNews)

The mixed tag team match did take place on the Raw after WrestleMania with Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls beating The Rhodes Scholars and The Bella Twins.

As for CM Punk, he remains active in WWE as he competes against Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Title at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st.
