CM Punk Could Target Major WWE Return Match
CM Punk has been out of action since January in WWE but as the months tick by, it seems his return to the ring could be here before we know it.
CM Punk suffered a torn triceps at the hands of Drew McIntyre in the men’s Royal Rumble and has been out of action ever since.
Despite not being able to wrestle, CM Punk and McIntyre have been embroiled in a bitter feud with Punk costing the Scottish star the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.
Punk has threatened to break McIntyre’s heart while Drew McIntyre has warned Punk on what might happen if he decides to follow through on his threat to turn up at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow. But when can these two stars settle their issues in the ring? That answer might be sooner than we think.
CM Punk Could Return In Time For WWE SummerSlam
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave the latest timeline of when CM Punk could return to the ring and suggested he could be back in time for a massive match at SummerSlam:
Punk’s not that far from being back most likely. If he had his surgery at the end of January, you’re looking at the end of July, August, maybe September. It’s not that far away anymore.
He might make SummerSlam. And if he can make SummerSlam, Punk and Drew for the title, that makes a lot of sense. Even if he can’t, you can do it a month after. Punk will be back fairly soon, it’s not as far away as sometimes you think because of that surgery.
As for where the title fits into the equation between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, that became clearer on Raw. Drew McIntyre was interrupted by the man who defeated him for the World Heavyweight Championship, Damian Priest, with Priest the latest star to give McIntyre some home truths.
However, Damian Priest did offer to give McIntyre a World Heavyweight Championship match when he is medically cleared once again. The prevailing belief is the two men will clash for the gold in Glasgow on June 15th.
