Why CM Punk Should Stop Chasing Titles In WWE

CM Punk

A former WWE superstar believes CM Punk should be doing things other than going for gold.

Ever since CM Punk returned to WWE in November 2023, he has made it clear that he wanted to prove that he is still the “best in the world” by winning the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship.

At SummerSlam, CM Punk became a 6-time WWE World Champion when he beat Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title. Unfortunately for Punk, that title reign only lasted about five minutes because Seth Rollins revealed he didn’t really have a knee injury, so he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Punk and became the World Champion.

Even though Rollins took Punk’s moment away, Punk has been determined to be champion again.

CM Punk will face Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Title at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st in Salt Lake City, Utah. Punk earned his shot by beating Jey and LA Knight in a triple threat match, while Jey won a battle royal for his shot at the title he won at WrestleMania 41 earlier this year.

Brodus Clay Feels Like CM Punk Doesn’t Need To Be Going For WWE World Title

Earlier this week, CM Punk turned 47, making him one of the oldest wrestlers on the WWE roster. John Cena is retiring this year at 48 years old, while AJ Styles is also 48 and plans to retire in 2026. Punk has stated he has no immediate retirement plans, likely because he was away from pro wrestling for about seven years.

Former WWE superstar Brodus Clay, who is now known as Tyrus, made the point on TMZ’s Inside The Ring that Punk should be putting over younger talent, like Bron Breakker, instead of going for the World Title.

“I think Punk is at a point in his career where titles really shouldn’t be on the radar. Really, he should be getting the (Bron) Breakkers ready. He should be getting the young guys ready.

I think there’s a point… again, nothing against Phil. I love Phil. He gave me a match, a title match on Monday Night Raw when at the time when none of the other top guys would. So I’m always thankful. He’s always a good dude. But I also think there comes a point when it’s the other guy’s time.

And who better to get somebody over than… look what Jericho was doing in AEW. How many guys did he make over there? So I think there comes a point where it’s not about the titles.” (H/T RingsideNews)

There are three matches officially announced for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st.

  • Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
