CM Punk Claims “Minority” Of Roster Don’t Want Him In AEW
New AEW World Champion CM Punk has been diplomatic in his response to whether certain wrestlers don’t want him backstage.
Continuing his undefeated streak since joining AEW, CM Punk defeated ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in the 19th win of his time with the company at Double Or Nothing, picking up the gold in the process and becoming only the fifth competitor to hold it.
Speaking at the post-show media scrum, Punk was asked to comment on one of the accusations made by Page in the build-up to the contest, saying he was trying to save AEW from him becoming World Champion. In giving his response, Punk acknowledged that there may be a minority of stars backstage who don’t want him there, but if they want to think like that then he considers them nobodies.
I’ve grown so wise in my old age that I’ll do my best to be as diplomatic as I possibly can with this answer. If there are people backstage that don’t like me, it’s a minority. If anybody says that nobody wants me here or nobody likes me, I like to say that nobodies don’t want me here and nobodies don’t like me.
The decision to put the AEW World Championship on CM Punk shows the stock they hold in the undefeated star, especially considering Eric Bischoff claimed he is the biggest financial flop in wrestling history.
