CM Punk Discusses How Much He Enjoyed Wrestling John Cena

cm punk john cena wwe talk

CM Punk had a lot of kind words to say about his days wrestling one of his greatest rivals in WWE: John Cena.

During CM Punk’s first WWE run from 2006 to early 2014, he went from being on the ECW brand to becoming a main eventer and the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in 2008.

When CM Punk did his legendary June 2011 promo on Raw, he sat on the stage while John Cena was in the ring. Cena was the target of Punk’s rant that night, but it wasn’t necessarily because Punk disliked Cena. It was about being the top guy and Punk feeling he was better than Cena.

That led to Money in the Bank 2011 in Chicago when CM Punk defeated John Cena to become the WWE Champion. Punk also re-signed with WWE at the time and would go on to wrestle Cena many more times.

Elite Comics11 was live on Instagram for a charity stream when CM Punk appeared to talk about his career briefly. They asked about when Punk figured things out as a wrestler. That led to Punk talking about how easy it was working with John Cena.

“I was being trusted enough to work with John Cena pretty much every day, every night for quite some time. We were married to each other and it was always a night off and it was always easy and when you’re tasked with working with the guy who pretty much is the engine that makes the company go at that point, it’s kind of just like, okay, I figured it out then. I was like, alright, I know.

They trust me enough and I’m not gonna do anything stupid, I’m not gonna hurt the guy. It’s always good and it’s quality and it was fun and it was different and they trusted me to keep it different and it wasn’t the same thing all the time.”

Another John Cena-CM Punk match worth seeking out is their classic Raw battle from February 25, 2013 when Cena beat Punk clean. The match is famous for Punk using a piledriver, which is a banned move in the company.

CM Punk Returning To The WWE Ring At Live Events

Following his WWE return at Survivor Series, CM Punk has done a lot of talking on Raw, Smackdown and even NXT. He’ll step into the ring during WWE’s upcoming holiday tour.

It was announced last week that CM Punk would be in action against The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio on December 26th at Madison Square Garden in New York City and December 30th in Los Angeles (Inglewood), California at the KIA Forum.

That CM Punk-Dominik Mysterio match will be Punk’s first official match in WWE since the 2014 Royal Rumble. It was one day later when CM Punked out of WWE due to his frustrations with the company.
