CM Punk Said To Have Caught “The Wrestling Bug Again”
While CM Punk’s AEW future remains very uncertain, a new report states that sources close to Punk have said he’s caught “the wrestling bug” once again.
CM Punk returned to wrestling after a seven-year exile to great acclaim in August 2021 when he debuted in AEW in his hometown of Chicago. Punk claimed the AEW World Title at Double Or Nothing 2022 and went on to reclaim the title at All Out later that year. And then things went downhill rapidly.
At the post-All Out media scrum, CM Punk lambasted several of his colleagues that resulted in an alleged backstage fight that saw Punk, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and company producer Ace Steel suspended. It is believed that Steel has since been let go following allegations he bit Kenny Omega during the melee.
It looks like the ramifications from the event are set to be revealed soon with AEW advertising The Elite again in vignettes on TV but Punk could be on his way out of the company while he recovers from an injury that he suffered in the All Out main event.
A report from Fightful Select has however mentioned that even if CM Punk’s time in AEW comes to an end, he may not be done with wrestling. The report says a WWE source says that the company would likely be interested in bringing the former WWE Champion back into the fold.
A source close to CM Punk is quoted as saying that they wouldn’t rule out Punk wrestling once again, saying that he’s “got the wrestling bug again.” It is however noted that the star might not feel the same way by the time his injury heals.
