CM Punk Recalls Bittersweet Conversation With Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt was determined to reach the top.

Considering the star he would go on to become, Bray Wyatt’s start to life in WWE was far from straightforward.

During his early years, he took part in NXT when it was more akin to a reality TV series rather than developmental under the name Husky Harris. He then went on to form part of The Nexus, and later The New Nexus alongside CM Punk, before being shuffled back to developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling.

It was during this period that Windham Rotunda became Bray Wyatt, and his star truly began to rise.

Bray Wyatt Made CM Punk Vow

On the latest episode of WWE Break It Down, Punk recalled speaking with Wyatt after he was moved back to FCW. While many might have expected the star to be downcast, he was already determined to reshape his character and take WWE by storm.

Wyatt told Punk that he was going to figure himself out, and they’d eventually main event WrestleMania together.

“What’s funny about this is shortly after the formation of this, we broke up and I remember a conversation. I was upset for Bray because he was being sent back down to developmental.

He was in high spirits and he said, ‘Don’t worry man, I’m gonna go back down there, I’m gonna figure myself out and I’m gonna come back up here and someday, me and you are gonna main event WrestleMania.’ I thought that was really cool.”

Sadly, Bray Wyatt passed away before he and Punk could stand tall on the Grandest Stage of Them All. But following his return to WWE in late 2023, CM Punk finally got his WrestleMania wish, taking the headline spot on night one of WrestleMania 41 with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
