CM Punk Says Adam Page “Poisoned Everything” During Their AEW World Title Feud

CM Punk is blaming “Hangman” Adam Page for being the reason why they had a “garbage match” for the AEW World Title.

It was over one year ago at AEW Double or Nothing in May 2022 when CM Punk challenged “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. It was Punk’s first time challenging for the AEW World Title that Page had held for 197 days going into the match.

Going into the match, Hangman Page did a promo on the May 25th, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite. According to Punk, Page didn’t say what he was supposed to say and decided to take some shots at CM Punk because there were people in the company that thought Punk tried to get Colt Cabana fired by AEW. This is what Page said:

“You talk a big game about workers’ rights. Well, you’ve shown the exact opposite since you got here. I love this place, I care about this place. This is my home. And this Sunday at Double or Nothing, I will not be defending this championship against you. No, for the first time in my life, I’ll be defending All Elite Wrestling from you.”

That was on the last Dynamite before Double or Nothing 2022. CM Punk beat Hangman for the AEW World Title at Double or Nothing for the first of Punk’s two AEW World Title wins.

In a highly-anticipated interview with ESPN ahead of his return to AEW TV on Collision this Saturday, CM Punk vented his frustrations about a number of things including Hangman Page.

“And I proceed to have what I think is a garbage match because I’m trying to protect myself on stuff instead of actually just working and trying to put on the best performance I can.”

“I’m keeping an eye out. He chopped me in the mouth one time, and I’m just like, ‘OK, did you do that on purpose?’ You chip my tooth, and I’m like, ‘All right, should I give him a receipt?’ It changes the dynamic. It poisoned everything for me, and it made it all really, really ugly, and that was what set all of this off, and here we are over a year later and ain’t s**t been done about it.”

As we covered earlier, it was in the Wrestling Observer that AEW was worried about CM Punk’s comments towards Page getting out because Hangman hasn’t re-signed with AEW yet, so there is a concern that perhaps Punk’s presence in the company could lead to Hangman leaving for WWE in the future.

Find out what CM Punk has to say this Saturday on AEW Collision airing at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
