Chris Jericho On What It Was Like Following Texas Death Match At AEW Full Gear

A tag team match featuring Chris Jericho followed up an all-time classic match at AEW Full Gear, which led to the wrestling legend sharing what that felt like.

At AEW Full Gear 2023, a match that many people are calling one of the best matches of the year was the gruesome Texas Death Match that ended when Swerve Strickland choked out his rival “Hangman” Adam Page with a chain around the throat.

The match between Swerve and Hangman was praised heavily by many people, including the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer and yours truly, both of whom called it a five-star match.

In the match that took place after Swerve’s bloody brawl with Hangman, Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega (aka The Golden Jets) teamed up against The Young Bucks duo of Matt & Nick Jackson. It was an entertaining match that ended when Omega hit the One Winged Angel on Matt for the pinfall win.

How Did Chris Jericho Feel About Following The Texas Death Match?

While speaking on his “Talk is Jericho,” former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho explained that the Golden Jets match with The Young Bucks worked because of the story.

“How do you follow that? Well you follow it with a good story, and you build it to a point where Kenny Omega gets me down on the ropes, and then Nick Jackson’s down on the ropes, then he has to decide who he’s going to V-Trigger? He has to definitively make this choice if he’s going to stick with the Elite [or] if he’s going to go with the Golden Jets.”

“And he points at me like he’s going to take me out, but it was just a ruse, as he ends up nailing Nick Jackson in the face. I think that part of the match got one of the biggest pops of the night.”

“It just goes to show you can drink blood to get a pop, or you could just point a finger with a good story and get a pop. So once again, I think we did a really good job of that.”

Due to their victory, The Golden Jets duo of Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega have earned an AEW Tag Team Title match. AEW has yet to announce when that title match will take place.
