Chris Jericho AEW Gimmick Done For Specific Reason

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho knows what he is doing when it comes to annoying fans with a new nickname he gave himself on AEW/ROH TV.

As a 9-time World Champion with title reigns coming in WWE, AEW, and ROH, Chris Jericho knows what it takes to stay relevant in the world of pro wrestling.

In his current role as “The Learning Tree” with Big Bill and Bryan Keith as allies, Jericho is the ROH World Champion who isn’t afraid to cheat to hold onto his title.

Over his 30+ years in pro wrestling, Jericho has been known for perhaps having more nicknames for himself than any wrestler ever. Lately, he’s been calling himself the “King of New York” since he had a recent title win over Matt Cardona at the ROH Final Battle PPV in New York City.

While speaking about his character on a recent episode of the Gabby AF podcast, Jericho said that he calls himself the King of New York to annoy New Yorkers since he’s a heel character.

“With King of New York, when that was suggested to me, I instantly went to Amazon and looked up New York merch.

I just thought I could really have some fun with this, like just being like this clued out idiot who thinks he’s such a New Yorker, but does all these things that real New Yorkers would never do.”

Chris Jericho Hasn’t Thought About Retiring

At the age of 54 years old, it’s logical for Chris Jericho to think about the end of his pro wrestling career, but the former AEW World Champion admitted recently that he hasn’t thought about it much.

“I really haven’t, man. Because it could end tomorrow. Sting quit at 65. Times have changed now in wrestling because there’s so much money involved from a television standpoint, and it’s still a very star-powered business.

So you could stay in this job a lot longer than you ever thought you would, as long as you’re healthy and still can perform. I haven’t really thought about that. I’ve never been the guy who’s like, ‘Year-long retirement ceremony.’ That seems, ‘Eh.’

But there might be some merit to doing a final show. But I don’t think about that stuff. I really live in what’s going on right now. I’m sure when the time is right, I’ll know it, and we’ll figure out a way to do it and then go from there.

But when I retire, it’ll be I’m retiring. I don’t want to do the one where you come back.”

After beating Matt Cardona at ROH Final Battle, it appears as though the returning Bandido could be Chris Jericho’s next challenger for the ROH World Title as we head into 2025.
