Charlotte Flair Thinks Match With Rhea Ripley Should Main Event WrestleMania 39
Charlotte Flair believes that her match with Rhea Ripley should be considered a main event of WrestleMania 39.
Since Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Royal Rumble match from the number one spot, she got the choice of who she gets to challenge at WrestleMania 39 in a Women’s Title match. Instead of facing the Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, Ripley chose to go after the Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.
When Ripley announced her decision, she noted that Flair beat her at WrestleMania 36 three years ago for the NXT Women’s Title. That was a match at the WWE Performance Center in front of no fans. This time, there will be a massive crowd at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
During her incredible WWE career that started about a decade ago, Charlotte Flair is a former Divas Champion, a six-time Raw Women’s Champion and a seven-time Smackdown Women’s Champion. That number of 14 title wins in WWE doesn’t even count the two NXT Women’s Titles that Charlotte won as well.
WrestleMania 39, much like the last three WrestleManias, will take place over two nights on April 1st and April 2nd. Many people assume that the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship between Roman Reigns (or Sami Zayn) and Cody Rhodes will headline the second night of WrestleMania, but what about the first? That’s unknown right now.
Charlotte Flair talked to Kevin Raphaël and Pat Laprade of Les anti-pods de la lutte podcast to explain why she thinks her match with Ripley is a main event match.
“Rhea and I are main event quality. It’s a main event story, and I want to be in the main event with her because I know it’s going to be that good.”
As she continued, Charlotte talked about if there’s any difference working for Triple H in WWE as opposed to working for Vince McMahon.
“I think the exact same way. Whoever is in charge, I want to make them proud. I want to do my best,” Flair stated. “When I creatively feel…I see something different, then explain this to me. I don’t look at it any differently. My job as a performer is just to do the best job possible right. I think a lot of people see it differently, but for me, whoever is in charge, that’s who you want to make happy or do a good job for.”
“I’ve known Hunter for so long, from not being in the company to being in the company to being his NXT Champion to his SmackDown Women’s Champion. I’m more familiar with him than Vince because I’ve known him longer. Being a talent and doing a great job shouldn’t change.”
While Charlotte Flair is not currently scheduled to wrestle at Saturday’s Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event, Rhea Ripley is in mixed-tag team match with Finn Balor against Edge & Beth Phoenix. After that, the build to Ripley-Flair is likely to begin.
