Chad Gable Trying To Break Away From “Typecast” Role
Chad Gable wants to be known as more than a tag team wrestler.
The Alpha Academy coach has been putting on star-making performances while competing as a singles wrestler. On the August 7th episode of Raw, Gable would have another breakout match, defeating Tommaso Ciampa, Ricochet and Matt Riddle in a Fatal 4-Way match to become the new number-one contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
The performance by Gable proved what many have known for a long time, that the former Tag Team Champion’s in-ring work is some of the best on the main roster, which was spotlighted during WrestleMania 39.
Speaking with Byron Saxton following the victory in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the former Olympian admitted he has been trying to prove that he is ready and willing to be a singles star, jumping at the opportunity when it arose:
“You dream about this stuff, man. I’ve been trying to break this kind of typecast I was put in as a tag team guy for a long time. I’ve been asking for opportunities and saying I’m ready to do a singles thing, or ready to at least try to prove myself and show that I can. Give me the shot to just show you that I can.
So I had my chance tonight, and I always said if I ever get it, trust me, I’m not gonna waste it. But it’s one of those things where the stars align. It’s funny, in this life, that happens once in a while. I was in Minnesota, my family’s front row, and just got the Intercontinental [Championship] number one contender match. Everything I’ve been asking for, the stars aligned and it happened for me tonight,”
Is Chad Gable Related To WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle?
Despite both wrestlers having Olympic backgrounds and sharing a similar move set, Gable is not related to Kurt Angle. Back in 2017, a storyline ran on Raw where Gable’s American Alpha tag team partner was in-fact revealed to be the son of the former WWE Champion. Due to a career-threatening neck injury, the storyline was dropped in early 2018, with Jordan going on to be a producer for the company.
H/t to Fightful.
