Carmella is “grateful and so excited” to be back in WWE as her favorite version of herself.

After seven months away from WWE, Carmella made her return at the start of February. Showcasing her Princess of Staten Island persona during a fatal four way win that earned a place inside the Elimination Chamber.

Despite being defeated by Asuka, Carmella appears to have returned with aggression and confidence. According to the F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S one, this has been helped by WWE boss’s decision to give her a run in the “character that is so near and dear to my heart.”

Speaking with her husband Corey Graves on the WWE After The Bell podcast, Carmella opened up about her mindset about returning to WWE under Triple H’s leadership.

“I had no idea what to expect. I knew how things were run and how things went when I was there before, but everything had changed. The locker room was different, the management is different, how am I going to fit in? How are they going to view me? How am I going to come back? Am I going to come back and be remembered and do what it is that I like to do or is it going to be completely different?”

“I’m so grateful that I am able to return to the moonwalking, trash-talking, Princess of Staten Island. For me, this is the character that is so near and dear to my heart. I created this character in NXT, it is me, it’s part of me, it’s me just turned way up. I feel so confident and comfortable in this role. To be able to be given this opportunity to go back to what brought me to the dance to begin with, I’m so grateful and so excited.”

“I’ve never felt more comfortable. I don’t have to think about anything, it’s just me. I can just be and perform. To come out through that curtain, I hit the damn moonwalk, I heard the F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S, little mixed up with my new song. It’s like the best parts of the old Carmella, the best of the new Carmella, mash it all together and I am thriving. I’m so excited.”

During the interview, Carmella spoke about her time away and how she suffered an ectopic pregnancy and depression, during which she was forced to take bed rest.

The first-ever winner of the Women’s Money In The Bank ladder match in 2017, Carmella would successfully cash in on Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair on the Smackdown after WrestleMania 34.

Since then Carmella has also held the Women’s Tag Team Championship with Zelina Vega and lifted the 24/7 Belt on four occasions.

Carmella is not happy with the makers of WWE’s 2K games, but is focused on facing Asuka on this week’s Raw, attempting to build on her momentum at the expense of the number one contender to the Raw Women’s Championship.
