Bully Ray Reveals How He Terrified Brock Lesnar
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray offered fascinating revelations about his early wrestling encounter with Brock Lesnar, shedding light on a pivotal moment that momentarily shook the formidable athlete.
In an episode of Busted Open Radio, recalling the circumstances surrounding Lesnar’s introduction to WWE and the responsibility bestowed upon him to mentor the newcomer through his inaugural singles run, Bully Ray disclosed the backstage directive he received to guide Lesnar through his initial steps in the wrestling world.
Brock just came on the scene. The office came to me, and they said, ‘Bubba, this is going to be the guy. Do as much as you can with him. Educate him as much as you can for his first-ever singles run.
During their match, Lesnar executed an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Ray, inadvertently causing him to land on his head. This unforeseen mishap led to a moment of trepidation for Lesnar, as he grappled with the fear of causing harm to his opponent.
[Brock] gave me an overhead belly-to-belly suplex and dumped me on my head, and he got terrified in that moment.
In response to Lesnar’s uneasiness, Ray swiftly rebounded from the unsettling incident by encouraging Lesnar to repeat the move, aiming to prevent him from succumbing to hesitation.
I immediately got back up and threw myself into Brock and said ‘Do it again.’ And he’s like, ‘No, no, no’ because he did not want to hurt me.
Recognising the critical nature of the situation, Ray emphasised the importance of overcoming apprehension in the wrestling ring, drawing parallels to the potential consequences faced by wrestlers who become hesitant during matches.
I knew that in that moment, if I did not have Brock throw me again he would wind up being skittish, and possibly be in a Ridge Holland situation. You don’t want another wrestler to become skittish. If you fall off the horse, you gotta get right back on the horse.
Which Former WWE Superstar Did Bully Ray Say Can’t Be Controlled?
Bully Ray said that former WWE Superstar Enzo Amore cannot be controlled and that is the reason that he doesn’t work for a major wrestling promotion as they like to exercise control over their performers but Ray believes if given a chance he thinks Amore could do very well.
