Bryan Danielson might be winding down his in-ring wrestling career but as the clock ticks down, his path to AEW gold has now become clearer.

In September 2021, AEW announced the launch of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, also known as the Owen Hart Cup. The tournament features men’s and women’s brackets, and the first winners were crowned at Double or Nothing in 2022.

On the pre-show for Double Or Nothing 2024, Tony Khan appeared with Dr Martha Hart to reveal that this year, and for the first time ever, the male and female winners of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments will receive AEW World Title shots at AEW All In on August 25th in Wembley Stadium.

And as it turns out, Bryan Danielson was listening.

In a backstage promo on Dynamite in Loveland, Colorado, Bryan Danielson declared as part of the men’s Owen Hart Tournament, noting that in his last year as a full-time AEW competitor, this could be his last chance to capture the AEW World Championship.

Despite joining AEW in September 2021, Bryan Danielson has never held gold during his time in the company. The last major title Danielson held in wrestling was the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship which he won with Erick Rowan in 2019.
