Bruce Prichard Reveals WWE’s Plan Going Into Negotiations With Cody Rhodes

As WWE’s Executive Director, Bruce Prichard has a say in talent acquisition, despite it not being his primary role.

So, when Cody Rhodes became a free agent after his AEW contract expired, the Stamford promotion needed to act fast.

In early 2022, Vince McMahon was still at the helm of the company and Rhodes was in his sight.

After playing a crucial role in the creation of All Elite Wrestling, The American Nightmare had established himself at the Florida promotion’s top wrestler.

By the time he quit the company, his brand value had substantially risen and he had become a household name.

During the latest episode of his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Cody Rhodes discussed ‘that meeting’ with Bruce Prichard, who was the guest on the show.

Cody explained that while he had different expectations from the meeting, but was truly surprised by how well it went. It would also signal his return to the promotion after six years.

Bruce Prichard acknowledged Cody Rhodes’ side of the story, while revealing what expectations WWE and Vince McMahon had going into the meeting.

There was a feeling on our side. We were not leaving until we had at least a handshake agreement as far as what the future was going to be and what the future was going to be with you. So, yeah, we had a plan and it happened pretty quickly. [11:36 onwards]

There is no question that reacquiring Cody Rhodes has worked wonders for the Stamford-based company.

Since returning, Rhodes has been the face of the promotion and continues to dominate merchandise sales among fans. He is also the current Undisputed WWE Champion in his second run.
