Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return Allegedly Tied To Backstage Issues With The Rock
Brock Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam was unexpected.
The 48-year-old’s name was mentioned in the Janel Grant lawsuit, which accused former WWE boss Vince McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking.
Since then, he has maintained a low profile, rarely appearing in any media interviews or discussing the lawsuit itself.
Brock Lesnar’s music hit after the main event on Sunday, when John Cena was thanking the audience at MetLife Stadium.
It led to the fans rising from their seats and giving one of the loudest pops heard in recent times. Lesnar sauntered towards the ring, soaking in the adulation.
He circled the ring, as Cena looked like he had seen a ghost. After Lesnar got into the ring, Cena tried to attack him, but got taken out with an F-5.
Meanwhile, the 17-time world champion is set to appear on the August 8 episode of SmackDown to address the Brock Lesnar confrontation.
Brock Lesnar’s Return Tied To John Cena’s Heat With The Rock
On the August 1 episode of SmackDown, John Cena unexpectedly turned babyface.
During his promo, he thanked Cody Rhodes. In the process, he took a dig at The Rock, saying he bought into “someone’s” idea to make shocking TV, which ruined his reputation.
On the latest episode of The Last Word, former WWE employee Jonathan Coachman brought up this promo in the discussion, claiming the promotion may have pivoted from its original plot.
Tommy Carlucci, another ex-WWE employee, shared his thoughts on the entire saga.
I agree with what you just said. They pivoted, Coach. I think The Rock said, “Scr*w you,” maybe it wasn’t Friday night, maybe it was during the beginning of the week; he said, “Scre*w you. I’m not showing up,” and Cena saying, “Why am I playing this friggin’ role? I don’t even like it. I’m going out there, I’m cutting a promo”.
Suddenly, he hit The Rock. He hit Travis Scott there. “I’m the guy that’s been doing this for 25 years-hustle; loyalty, respect. I’m doing it my way.” And I think…the Brock thing was a last-minute thing. You know how fast they can get things done? Get a jet there, sign a contract. They cleared him. I think it was a last-minute thing. [10:16 onwards]
Brock Lesnar’s last appearance was at the 2023 SummerSlam, where he lost to Cody Rhodes in a singles match.
