Brock Lesnar May Face Ex-World Champion At WWE WrestleMania 42

A former two-time WWE World Champion could be Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 opponent.

At the first-ever WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE in September, Brock Lesnar competed in his first match in over two years.

It was a match that was likely Lesnar’s final matchup against one of his greatest career rivals, John Cena. In an impressive performance, Lesnar dominated Cena from the moment the bell rang and picked up the victory in under ten minutes.

The main reason Lesnar was away from WWE for over 2 years was that his name was mentioned in a lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant against WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. Even though Lesnar is named in the lawsuit Grant filed against McMahon, he is neither charged with anything nor a defendant.

After Lesnar reappeared on WWE TV at SummerSlam to attack Cena, it was reported that WWE’s legal team cleared Lesnar, which led to his return to the ring.

Regarding his WWE future, Fightful Select reports that MyBookie has former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther as the odds-on favorite as Lesnar’s opponent at WrestleMania 42 in April 2026. It was noted by Fightful that Lesnar-Gunther “was actually the plan leading into WrestleMania 40, prior to references to Lesnar in the Janel Grant lawsuit.”

Omos Calls Out Brock Lesnar For WrestleMania Rematch

If Brock Lesnar faces Gunther at WrestleMania 42, then it would be a first-time ever matchup between the 10-time WWE World Champion Lesnar and the 2-time World Champion Gunther.

Brock Lesnar’s last WrestleMania match was at WM39 in 2023 when he beat Omos in a match where Lesnar impressively F5’d the monster Omos, which drew a huge pop from the crowd.

The monstrous Omos has made it clear that he would love to face Lesnar again.

“‘Mania last year in Vegas was awesome, man. Being in that environment — the lights, the energy, the big city vibe — it’s incredible. Going back there again? Chef’s kiss. I’m excited, I’m thrilled to return, and I’m definitely looking forward to being on the card this year.

My dream opponent? Since it’s going to be even bigger in Vegas, I’ll say it — Brock Lesnar. We need to run it back. We need to run it back.”

In past interviews, Gunther has made it clear he would love to face Brock Lesnar in WWE. Perhaps he won’t have to wait too much longer because WrestleMania 42 is just six months away.
