Britt Baker’s AEW Future Remains Unsettled, Contract Details Revealed

Britt Baker

Britt Baker’s future remains in AEW even if other companies are interested in signing her.

The former AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker has been in the news a lot over the past week. That’s because of a report from Wade Keller of PWTorch claiming that Baker’s AEW career could be over soon due to how “wildly unpopular” she is.

“There’s a lot of frustration with her, I’m told, and I’ve heard this pretty consistently, she’s wildly unpopular in the women’s locker room. One person said no one ever wants to see her come back, speaking of the women’s locker room.

Now, that is a bold, broad statement. I could imagine somebody on social media going, ‘I’m a woman in AEW, and I want her back.’ Okay, fair enough. But I’m just telling you, somebody’s perception is nobody wants her back. That’s how bad it is. Someone’s willing to tell me that. There was the incident with her in MJF, and I’m told that factors into her being off television. But there are other issues with her that have come up.

She has become increasingly difficult to work with in a general sense. She has always had a reputation for being difficult to work with. There was a specific situation recently and not counting the MJF, situation, where people just threw their hands up.”

After the Keller report, the Wrestling Observer claimed that the reports about Baker being difficult to work with were not true.

In a follow-up to the Baker store, it was also reported that WWE would be interested in signing Baker if she was available. Baker has worked for AEW since the company launched in January 2019 and has proudly stated that she was the first women’s wrestler signed by the company.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that Britt Baker is likely to remain with AEW even though her future is uncertain.

“Right now, none of the key people in the story would talk about it publicly, but she’s still with the company, she’s not being used now, and everything else is largely up to when Tony Khan would want to bring her back for a program.”

The reality is that AEW has hardly used Baker over the past several months, but that’s also a case for a lot of women in a company where they usually only feature one women’s match per show. When you only have one women’s match per show and there are only two AEW shows per week – Dynamite and Collision – then that means there won’t be time for a lot of women on the roster.

Britt Baker Issues Statement About Personal Life

While Britt Baker didn’t respond directly to the reports about being a problem backstage in AEW, she issued a statement on social media. In that message, Baker addressed a rumor that she cheated on her former boyfriend Adam Cole (who also works for AEW), and didn’t like that people were spreading lies about her.

I understand we as performers are expected to have thick skin through opinions and lies we read about ourselves, but spreading lies about my personal life is just low, weird, and something I won’t tolerate.

I’ve never cheated on anyone in my life. #TellYourSource

Regarding Baker’s AEW contract, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful posted on social media that Britt Baker has about a year and a half left on her AEW contract without injury time.
