Bret Hart Reveals Which Modern Stars His Father Stu Would Have Admired
In a recent interview with “The Wrestling Classic,” WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart offered intriguing insights into WWE superstars his late father, the legendary Stu Hart, would have been eager to work with in his prime. Stu Hart, renowned for his rigorous training methods and the infamous “Hart Dungeon,” left an indelible mark on professional wrestling before his passing in 2003.
Bret Hart, drawing from his intimate knowledge of his father’s wrestling philosophy, didn’t hesitate to name Brock Lesnar as a wrestler who would have caught Stu’s eye.
My dad would’ve loved to have had a couple hours with him in the basement.
The admiration, according to Bret, would likely have been mutual. He recalled a poignant moment from the twilight of his father’s life.
I think Brock Lesnar would’ve been a big fan of my dad, too. I know the last year or two that my dad was alive, I do remember him making a special trip down to the Saddledome in Calgary just to meet Brock Lesnar.
Bret Hart also mentioned his former rival, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, as another wrestler his father would have enjoyed working with, and reflected on a memorable interaction between Stu and Austin at the WWE Canadian Stampede event in 1997.
I think my dad would’ve had a lot of fun with Steve Austin. I always loved when Steve Austin grabbed my dad at that [Canadian] Stampede pay-per-view and shook him up in the front row.
This moment, according to Bret, exemplified the kind of respect and recognition that Stu Hart deeply appreciated.
My dad loved that kind of stuff. He loved to be included and loved to be remembered and sort of respected and treated the way Steve Austin treated him. Like he was somebody important.
These revelations offer a fascinating glimpse into the mind of Stu Hart and the qualities he valued in professional wrestlers. It also highlights the enduring impact of the Hart family legacy on the world of professional wrestling, bridging generations of talent from Stu’s era to the modern WWE landscape.
