Bret Hart Apologised To Rita Chatterton Following Vince McMahon Allegations

Bret Hart

Bret Hart recently reached out to Rita Chatterton.

In January 2023 it was revealed that Vince McMahon reached a multimillion-dollar settlement with former referee Rita Chatterton, who claimed she had been assaulted back in 1986.

In 1992, Chatterton came forward with her story claiming that McMahon made unwanted sexual advances towards her, and after she turned him down, he raped her. Despite the settlement, McMahon denies any wrongdoing.

At the time, many people working for WWE were sceptical of Chatterton’s claims, and some within the company worked to discredit her. One person who came to the defence of McMahon was WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, however, in a new interview with Slate, he expressed his regret over the situation.

The WWE legend said that he’d recently bumped into Chatterton at a convention and apologised for not believing her back in 1992.

“I just didn’t believe it. I figured Vince had too much at stake to ever do something like that.

I apologized from the bottom of my heart,” Hart recalled, “and I said, ‘I believe that what happened to you, happened to you. And I apologize. I was wrong.”

Bret Hart Has Lost All Respect For Vince McMahon

During the interview, Bret Hart said that he’d lost all respect for Vince McMahon in light of the allegations. The veteran said he was “embarrassed” that he used to look up to McMahon, and admitted that despite their rocky relationship he always held a begrudging respect for his former boss.

However, in light of the recent lawsuit filed by Janel Grant, Hart said he would be unable to ever shake McMahon’s hand again.
