Booker T Explains Why He Loves Doing Commentary In WWE NXT
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T says he is currently “living my best life” working as a commentator on NXT.
The Five-Time WCW Heavyweight Champion has been working alongside Vic Joseph in the NXT booth since October last year.
As a Two-Time Hall of Famer, as a solo performer, and as the tag team Harlem Heat, Booker T has seen it all when it comes to WWE and is embracing being able to work up close to the next generation of Superstars.
Earlier this week, Booker T was knocked to the floor in NXT as Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne continued their feud, with Jayne thrown into the commentary table and laying out the WWE Legend.
But despite being at risk physically, the Texas native is relishing his current role and the opportunity to be there to help guide the young talent as they try and work their way into the main WWE roster.
Speaking with PWMania, the 2006 King Of The Ring shared how he deals with criticism and why he is enjoying being part of NXT.
“You know, it’s a lot of fun. I know, one of these publications voted me the worst commentator. I get it, I understand it. You know, that’s the one who has probably never heard commentary from a hip perspective. You know, from a shucky, ducky, quack, quack.
You know, I get it, you know, but what I bring to the table is excitement, entertainment. If you’re not having fun watching this show, you got to turn the channel and go watch something else.
Wrestling is not MMA, it’s not boxing. It is to be embellished. I took a bump last night, you know, because Jacy J come flying over the table and you know, the fans love that kind of stuff.
You know, so for me, I’m living my best life. I’m so content, being in NXT watching the next level of superstars, you know, go on this journey and have a hand in their journey as well, being able to mentor them and try to guide them through this journey.
Because it’s rough, especially when you ain’t got somebody on your side pushing for you and trying to tell you the do’s and don’ts of this business. So for me, I’m loving being in NXT watching these young guys, progression of you know, this wrestling business.”
With the WWE Draft taking place on next week’s Smackdown and the following Monday Night Raw, speculation as to if any of the current NXT Superstars will get a call up.
Booker T has praised many of the NXT roster but highlighted two for bright futures. With Bron Breakker one of those singled out.
Bron is a Two-Time NXT Champion, and after losing the championship to Carmelo Hayes at Stand & Deliver, would be free to make the move up to the main roster.
Next week on NXT Spring Breakin’, Bron is stepping into the ring with Andre Chase, whilst Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell will be defending her Championship in a triple threat match against Roxanne Perez and Tiffany Stratton.
Booker T has also discussed how he feels WWE missed an opportunity by not making a WrestleMania 39 match longer and potentially building a longer-term feud.
