Big E Admits WWE In-Ring Return Would Be A “Gamble”
Big E has given a new update on his WWE status.
Big E hasn’t wrestled since teaming with Kofi Kingston on the March 11th, 2022 episode of SmackDown. During a tag team match against the Brawling Brutes, the former World Champion didn’t fully rotate while taking an overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex from Ridge Holland. This meant that the New Day star landed high up on his neck.
The accident resulted in Big E breaking his neck, and it’s now been over two years since he last stepped in the ring.
Speaking in a new interview with CBS, the star revealed he’s been told the decision over whether to wrestle again now lies with him. He’d previously been advised by doctors to never wrestle again.
“The great thing is they put me in control of that. Obviously, I’m listening to the doctors. They know more than I do as far as my health and prognosis. It’s one of those things where my ability to live my life day-to-day and to be in the gym is not compromised at all.
But, obviously, getting in the ring and taking bumps, getting thrown on my back and my neck is a little bit different.”
Big E Says In-Ring Return Is Far From Certain
Despite the decision over whether to resume his career being his call, Big E admitted lacing up his boots would be a gamble.
“I’ve been doing physical things my entire life, and I never wanted to leave sports hobbled and crippled. Now, at 38, those are considerations of mine. I want to make sure that I’m making the best decision for myself and for my health moving forward. It’s just one of those things I want to be smart about.
It’s just a matter of listening to the doctors, taking in enough information, looking at my more recent set of scans and deciding if the gamble is worth it.”
It’s been announced that Big E will host an unusual kind of challenge between Otis and Omos during WrestleMania weekend.
