Big E Responds After Neck Injury Mocked On WWE Raw
Big E has given his thoughts on a distasteful joke that was made at his expense on Raw.
Big E has been out of action since March 11th, 2022. During a tag team match on SmackDown, the star landed high up on his neck while taking a Belly-to-Belly Suplex outside the ring from Ridge Holland. Although he avoided surgery, he hasn’t wrestled since.
On the April 7 episode of Raw, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe appeared on commentary for the World Tag Team Title match between the New Day and the War Raiders. Hinchcliffe is set to host the “Roast of WrestleMania” and his involvement was immediately met with criticism online.
Back in October, he called Puerto Rico an “island of garbage” at a rally for Donald Trump, while the rest of his speech was littered with other racial tropes many found offensive.
On Raw, Hinchcliffe quipped that the only thing stiffer than Michael Cole is Big E’s neck, and the remark sparked backlash on social media.
Big E Not Hurt By WWE Raw Joke
On the Raw Recap with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant, Big E responded to the comment and denied he was upset by it. The one-time New Day star said people had obviously signed off on the line, and it had nothing to do with him.
“At my big age of 39 years old, people will say what they want about you… Has nothing to do with me. That’s not my business. Say what you want. He was given a mic, he was given an opportunity. People will feel how they want to.
There’s a lot of discourse, oftentimes as a public figure. People will say things about you, whether they’re jokes, whether they’re not and that is their right. It was said on the show. I’m supposed to talk, especially when things are mentioned about me, I should have an opinion about them. It’s just, it is tiring to have to weigh in on everyone’s opinion or whatever they say.
Look, I’m not hurt, I’m good. I want the discourse to be happy without me, honestly… I didn’t sign up for this (laughs). I wasn’t aware of this. He did what he wanted to. People signed off on it. It has nothing to do with me. Truly.”
During an interview in December 2024, Big E revealed he has no pain in his day-to-day life, but he still hasn’t been cleared to wrestle. The former World Champion has repeatedly stated that he’s come to terms with the possibility his in-ring career is over.
