Big Change Needed For AEW To Bring In 2-Night PPVs

Tony Khan AEW

What would it take for Tony Khan to try two-night pay-per-views in AEW?

In 2020, WWE introduced the first two-night WrestleMania in response to the global pandemic that forced that show to take place behind closed doors. The company has kept that format ever since and has grown more of its events to take place over entire weekends.

2025 saw the first two-night SummerSlam take place with Cody Rhodes reclaiming the WWE Championship from John Cena in the night two main event. WWE will hold the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia for the first time in 2026, but from 2027, it is believed TKO also want to make this a two-night event as they look to squeeze every dollar they can from WWE’s loyal fans.

Big Change Needed For 2-Night AEW PPVs

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about the possibility of AEW ever holding two night pay-per-views and says he thinks the company’s media rights would have to change significantly before that happened:

There could be a time, there could come a day, but not now. Now, if somebody was to buy their pay-per-view rights and it’s not a two-day, $50 each day purchase, it’s just part of the package, and you do the 2 dates as part of the deal, so you make money off the two dates because somebody’s overpaying you, or fairly paying you for it, could you do it then? If you have the ability and you’re hot enough to draw on two straight nights, which can be done.

It’s possible they could do that in the future, but I think as long as you’re having $50 shows, I don’t think you could do it.

The next AEW pay-per-view will be All Out on September 20th, which takes place in Toronto. Tony Khan’s company faces stiff competition as WWE Wrestlepalooza also takes place on the same day.
