What It Means For Becky Lynch To Be WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion

Becky Lynch on WWE RAW

Becky Lynch is reflecting on her Women’s Intercontinental Championship reign.

The Man defeated Lyra Valkyria at Money in the Bank PLE to not only win the title, but also have her hand raised by her Irish counterpart as stipulation.

Since then, she’s had a target on her back, with not just Valkyria chasing the belt, but also Bayley.

At the all-women’s Evolution PLE, the ‘Irish Lasskicker’ defended her IC title in a triple threat match.

In a highly acrobatic match, Lynch stole the win using one of the most impressive maneuvers to pin Bayley.

As of August 2, she’s held the title for 56 days. On the eve of SummerSlam, Becky Lynch spoke to Michael Cole about what the IC Championship means to her.

Oh, it means everything. It means everything, because this title is a workhorse championship, and that’s what I am. It’s also a championship that was designed to give people opportunities, and I am the gatekeeper of opportunities.

You look at Lyra, oh, she was a fine little champion. She was the first Intercontinental Champion, but look at her now, I have still elevated her like nothing else has, because I’m the greatest. [H/T: Fightful]

Becky Lynch’s Distinct SummerSlam History

SummerSlam is a special premium live event for Becky Lynch due to her personal history associated with it.

During a recent sit-down with The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, the 38-year-old listed her accomplishments at ‘the Biggest Party of the Summer.’

It was my first PLE. It was where the infamous slap happened that really catapulted my career. It was also where I came back after I had my daughter and beat Bianca Belair in 26 seconds. And then a year later we were tearing the house down and then fighting side-by-side… I’m kind of blown away that it’s been three years since I wrestled at a SummerSlam.

Becky Lynch’s match at the 2025 SummerSlam will take place on Night 2 on August 3.
