Becky Lynch Recalls Being Told To “Move Like A Girl” In NXT

Becky Lynch WWE

Becky Lynch was left confused by instructions handed down in NXT.

By the time Becky Lynch arrived in NXT in 2013, her journey to WWE had already been less than straightforward. Lynch began wrestling in 2002 but was forced to walk away from the industry in 2006 after suffering a concussion.

During her hiatus, Lynch wrestled only three times, eventually signing with WWE.

Back in 2013, WWE’s women’s division was in a vastly different position than today. Women’s matches were often seen as an afterthought, and those involved were told to wrestle in a vastly different style from their male counterparts.

Speaking on Never Before Told with husband Seth Rollins, Lynch recalled this period of her career and being told to “move like a girl.”

“Coming into WWE, I had one very specific goal and that was to main event WrestleMania and make women’s wrestling the coolest thing on TV, and to change the game and to be seen as equal. Even in my early stages in NXT, it was weird and confusing because you were told that women can’t punch and you can’t use things like steps and you can’t use the post. Are we supposed to just hair pull and slap each other? It’s very confusing. I even remember being told, ‘Move like a girl.’ What, I am a girl, what do you mean? It was all so very confusing.

Also, where I wanted to go to, there had been no women that had gone there. It is very male-dominated. I was trying to get to this space where the men were at the top of the card so I had to rely on them for help and for guidance. I was lucky that I had people like you [Seth Rollins] to turn to. John Cena, being able to ask him advice on all the live events.

You very much had to go to people who had been in the spots you wanted to be. Luckily, everybody was so willing to help the younger and eager talent in that regard. Nobody is hoarding the secrets for themselves,”

Becky Lynch Vs. Rhea Ripley At WrestleMania?

With WrestleMania season now well underway, speculation is running wild over what The Man will be doing at the spectacular. After Bayley won the Royal Rumble, it was reported that Becky Lynch should be considered one of the favorites to face Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania.

At Elimination Chamber on February 24th, it’s believed that there will be a women’s Elimination Chamber match to decide Ripley’s next challenger. Meanwhile, Bayley is expected to face IYO SKY.
