Backstage Politics Prevented Popular WWE Tag Team From Winning Gold

Politics and heat backstage are the reasons one former WWE star says this popular tag team never won gold in the company.

Politics in the workplace is something familiar to everyone, but in the heated and competitive environment of WWE, with TV time and money at stake, this can turn into a pressure cooker waiting to erupt.

Over the years, countless stars have claimed that politics stopped them from achieving their potential in the company or stopped them from finding in-ring success despite their popularity with fans.

One of the most popular acts of the mid-2000s in WWE was the tag team of Cryme Tyme. JTG and Shad Gaspard were so popular that for a time they were aligned with John Cena on-screen, with Cena dubbing the trio “CTC.”

Despite that and their popularity with fans, Cryme Tyme never won gold in WWE, and many have long wondered why.

JTG Thinks Politics Was At Play In WWE

Speaking to Recap, Rewind, Relive, JTG was asked if there had been talk of Cryme Tyme winning tag team gold in WWE during their run, but it seems politics got in the way of that happening:

Plenty of times. There was a few times. But, politics, heat, you know. Looking back, you know, lessons learned.

Shad Gaspard sadly lost his life while saving his son from a rip current off Venice Beach in Los Angeles. In 2022, WWE honoured Gaspard’s heroic last act by recognising him with the Warrior Award at that year’s Hall of Fame ceremony.
