AJ Styles Talks Being Back In WWE World Title Picture
AJ Styles has commented on how he feels being back in the WWE World Title picture ahead of his big match at Night of Champions.
The new WWE World Heavyweight Championship was announced by Triple H recently and now we know who will compete for it at Night of Champions next Saturday, May 27th.
On the May 12th edition of WWE Smackdown, AJ Styles beat Edge & Rey Mysterio in a thrilling triple threat match in the quarterfinals of the tournament to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion. Later that night, Styles also beat Bobby Lashley to move on to the finals of the tournament.
Seth “Freakin” Rollins will represent the Raw brand in the finals of the World Heavyweight Title tournament after he beat Finn Balor in the quarterfinals.
For AJ Styles, it’s a return to the World Title scene. Styles had the best run of his WWE career on the Smackdown brand when he first won the WWE Title in 2016. When Styles won the WWE Title for the second time in November 2017, he would go on to hold it for over one year – 371 days.
Since losing the WWE Championship in late 2018, AJ Styles has been doing other things in WWE like competing for other championships, being part of a championship tag team with Omos and working with his friends in The Club as well.
In an interview with Inside The Ropes, AJ Styles talked about how it felt being back in the hunt for a major championship in WWE.
“It’s about time I’m back in the heavyweight title picture. Unfortunately, I’m up against Seth Rollins, who’s probably one of the best. I said it a long ago that he’s gonna be great, and nothing has changed. He’s still one of the best, no doubt about it, so we’ll see what happens.”
As he continued, Styles spoke about how
“Oh, you’re gonna be in two matches your first time back in the ring with WWE. Oh, that’s great, because that’s where I wanted to be. Who knows where my cardio is at this point? It’s a bit worrisome, but I made it through, and now for my first biggest match in the WWE [since I returned], it’s gonna be against Seth Rollins in Jeddah. So yeah, no pressure.”
The Styles-Rollins match is one of the three “main event” matches that WWE is promoting for Night of Champions. You can see the full card below.
