AEW’s Buddy Matthews Gives Heartbreaking Injury Update
Buddy Matthews has been away due to an injury he suffered in February 2025.
While making his entrance at AEW Grand Slam Australia for his match against Kazuchika Okada, Matthews hurt his ankle, ruling him out indefinitely.
The 37-year-old went on to compete and completed the bout, spending 13+ minutes in the ring despite feeling discomfort.
He underwent ankle surgery in August and had been in rehabilitation. Matthews has not provided an update, which, unfortunately, reveals that all is not well.
Replying to a user on Instagram, the AEW wrestler revealed that he still faced nerve issues that came with numbness. He also admitted that healing will take some more time.
It’s been a long process. I’m still having nerve issues with a lot of numbness. But I’ve accepted that it’s going to take time. I really thought I’d have returned to the ring by now, but I can only control what I can. [H/T: Ringside News]

Injured AEW Star Returns At Worlds End
On December 27, an injured AEW star made their much-awaited return.
Darby Allin had pulled out from the Continental Classic tournament after the November 26 match against Kevin Knight. Jack Perry eventually replaced him.
Gabe Kidd subsequently challenged him. On the December 25 episode of Collision, Kidd taunted Allin’s injury, only for the latter to shockingly turn up in the ring.
Allin tried to attack him with a baseball bat, but he escaped.
On Saturday, the two unhinged superstars finally clashed, both bleeding at different points during the match.
The no-rules stipulation worked in favor of both wrestlers, as they unleashed fury upon each other, using every weapon they could get their hands on.
Allin even paid tribute to his mentor Sting by hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on his opponent before following it up with the Scorpion Death Lock.
Earlier, the 32-year-old hit Kidd with two consecutive Coffin Drops, once while he was laid out in the ring and the second on the outside.
Ultimately, Allin rolled up Gabe for a quick pinfall.
