AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Star Pulled From Match After Injury

AEW Logo over roster

One AEW star is feeling the effects of an insane match-up at Forbidden Door.

On June 30th the annual AEW and NJPW crossover spectacular landed at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The 2024 edition of the show was given some extra spice with the addition of CMLL and Stardom, and the action on the night was fast and furious.

One of the highlights was the six-man Ladder Match for the TNT Title. The match was made after Adam Copeland was forced to give up the gold after breaking his leg at Double or Nothing.

During a wild clash, the combatants were sent flying through tables as well as ladders, with the aftermath resembling a demotion derby. But when it was all said and done, Jack Perry denied Mark Briscoe at the last second to become TNT Champion.

While Briscoe will be left nursing some bruises after the attack by Perry with a steel chair, he isn’t the only one.

AEW Star Withdrawn From Upcoming Match

Lio Rush made a surprise return to AEW in late May, before landing himself a spot in the Ladder Match at Forbidden Door. However, his involvement came at a cost. Beyond Wrestling has announced Rush will miss a planned match against Aaron Rourke on July 4th due to an injury suffered at the pay-per-view.

BREAKING: Lio Rush suffered an injury during tonight’s ladder match and will no longer be able to compete against @PerfectAaron1 at #Americanrana this Thursday, 4th of July at White Eagle in Worcester. We are working to find a suitable replacement…

Following the match, Rush took to social media to confirm he was in some pain but promised to be back.

I’m not suffering, but man am I in some pain. What a night. What a match. I’ll be back for more. Thanks to everyone for riding with me on this journey through the #ForbiddenDoor 🚪🪜

He later added that he’s good after much concern from fans.

I’m good guys. Couple ice baths and I’ll be straight. I appreciate the concern 💪🏽

There’s no word on when Rush will be back in the ring.
